CHARLESTON — Busy West Virginia entrepreneurs can learn the basics of starting and improving a new business at their own pace online and at no cost.
The online West Virginia Small Business Development Center or WV SBDC, is free through March 2019, thanks to sponsorship from the Regional Development Funding Corporation. The sponsorship allows WV SBDC to offer online and in-person workshops without the standard $35 registration fee.
Online participants register to receive a login code. The unique login allows the registered learner to access the workshop from any device with internet access, whether in the home, library or caf. The participant can start, stop and resume the workshop any time. To register, visit www.wvsbdc.com and click on the Training Calendar.
The online session is organized into two sections: planning and funding. Each section contains brief recorded presentations on the essentials for opening and operating a business. Key topics include why you need a business plan and how to write one, marketing, credit score, access to capital and more.
After the participant completes the workshop, WV SBDC will email the handy reference guide "Going into Business in West Virginia."
WV SBDC continues its regular schedule of in-person workshops led by business coaches with professional certifications. They provide guidance in areas such as exporting, innovation, technology and economic development, finance, management, cybersecurity and marketing.
After attending an online or in-person workshop, the entrepreneur may take the next step by meeting with a WV SBDC business coach. The meetings are free, confidential and one-on-one between the entrepreneur and the business coach.
The WV SBDC offers a variety of services to entrepreneurs and small businesses to increase their profitability and customer base, enabling continued growth and prosperity for West Virginia's diversifying economy.
